Autumn spreads across the Alaskan summer

The sun is shining and moisture left from the rains last night drips from the leaves of the trees in the yard, sparkling droplets falling toward the earth that is already being blanketed by the first of the falling leaves.

My yard is a palate of late summer and early autumn colors, the green of the leaves fading away to yellow that will soon drop down from the trees and fade to brow, covered all too soon in a white blanket of new snow.

I am not ready for winter to come, but I can not deny the beauty of  autumn.  The fireweed has gone to seed and the feather soft fluff that carries the seed can be seen more and more blown by gentle breezes as it spreads across the Alaskan countryside.

This week I will be out there getting the yard ready for winter, not quite finished with summer, but ready to take in and put away many of the things which had been a part of the summer and are unsuited to autumn decor or use.
